F.A.Q.s

What is SUSD Data Wall?  Data Wall is the Sunnyside School District online home for reports built on the Schoolzilla platform.  This is where our instructional staff can quickly and easily find the data they need most to make a difference for their students.

What is Tableau?  Tableau is the software platform which allows our team to combine custom data sets form various district systems (e.g. PowerSchool, Illuminate, Review360…etc.) and turn them into rich, visual data representations which are relevant and easy to navigate.

How do I access Data Wall?   Instructional staff can access Data Wall via this link or by clicking the link from the front page of Sunnyside LEARN (see below).

REMEMBER that you MUST be logged in to your district Gmail account (@susd12.org) on your browser in order to gain access to the data wall.

What are Data Wall’s primary features? Data Wall provides an intuitive, visual interface which makes data analysis easier for teachers and school leaders.  Some of the major features are…

  • Featured Reports:  Data leaders can mark certain reports as “featured” for their organization.  These reports show up at the top of every user’s data wall (see below)…

  • Favorite Reports: Any user can “favorite” the reports they find most useful so that they can find them again easily.

  • Collections:  Data leaders can group reports together as collections so that teachers, school leaders, and administrators can easily find reports intended for specific purposes.

What is the Data Blog?  The site http://blog.susd12.org/data is your one-stop link to all things related to data and the best place to start if you have a data related question.  In addition to all of the latest news and updates on newly developed reports and data sets, the Data Blog also includes the following cool stuff…

  • The latest tips and information on how to best access your data.  Remember to enter your email in the Subscribe link to get an email reminder whenever news hits (see below).

  • The District Data Calendar provides reminders as to which data sets are available during the course of the academic year.  They also provide updates as to which reports should be run by school leaders to align with district assessment goals.
  • The Data Search Dashboard allows users to search for the right report to meet your needs, whether it’s in the Data Dashboard, PowerSchool, Illuminate or anywhere else!  It also provides a summary and screen shot of the report with specific directions on how it works and what information it provides.

What Are Action Filters?  Filters are the menu options along the side of the page which allow the user to customize the data which is viewed as part of the visual report (see below).  These filters are structured as part of the design of the report and will automatically be updated new terms and assessments are added.

Can I “Save” a report view once I have created it?  Yes, all reports using action filters can be saved using the Original View button along the bottom of the report (see below).

Once the custom view has been saved, you can provide it with a specific name and share it with others using the Original View settings options (see below).

Can data reports be exported out of the Data Wall to other formats (e.g. Excel, Image, Print…etc)?  Yes, most data can be exported using the Download button along the bottom of the page.  To download files to various formats, use the following options…

  1. Excel Spreadsheet- Select the CrossTab option and download the file as a .csv
  2. Picture- Select the Image option to download the report as a .png file.
  3. Printable Report- Select the PDF option.  NOTE: If your report has multiple tabs, you will need to select WHICH tabs you would like to print.  “This Dashboard” will download the report you are currently viewing.  “Sheets in Workbook” will download reports on all tabs of the current workbook (you can deselect specific sheets after choosing this option).

How can I request the development of new reports?  As part of our on-going deployment and development plan, user will soon be able to request the development of new reports via our http://helpdesk.susd12.org site.  Once the requests have been made, they will be reviewed by our data advisory team and made available to everyone as soon as they are ready.

What if my report page doesn’t load?  Occasionally you may have some trouble with loading a report (particularly during times when traffic volume on the host server is high).  If you page within the report does not open within 20-30 seconds, try clicking the Return to Data Wall button in the upper-right corner of the page and reloading the report.  If the issue persists, please submit ticket to http://helpdesk.susd12.org and provide us with the specific name of the report and tab you are loading so that we can follow up.

How can I view data reports “side by side” to compare results from different schools?  By “right clicking” on the current tab, you can select Duplicate to load a separate tab or different results within the same report.  Because you are sending a duplicate authentication request to the sever when you open a new tab, you may get an error message “An error occurred on the server”.  However, you simply need to reload the page (by clicking the F5 key) and this error should go away.
